Cuba Travelogue Summary
December 31, 2005 - January 7, 2006: Hotel St. John's, Havana. A cheap 3-star hotel. The room smelled rotten wood, and one of us had allergic reactions due to mold. Avoid it!
January 8 - 13, 2006: Sol Palmeras Hotel & Bungalows, Varadero. An excellent 4-star all-inclusive hotel. Recommended!
January 1-7 & 13-15: Havana. The first and last two nights we stayed at a Hotel Vedado which is a cheap 3-star hotel which was OK, except that the safe deposit box in the room did not work, the air conditioner did not work, and the room needed paint and new furniture. The remaining nights we stayed at a Casa Particular. We had booked in advance, but when arriving the apartment was not available, but the owner was able to find another apartment in a lower category that what we had booked.
January 8 - 13, 2007: Hotel Ancon, Playa Ancon. A good 3-star all-inclusive hotel which had been refurbished after damaged by hurricane Dennis in 2005.
Hotel stays were booked at Vacacionar Travel Agency (recommended), or Hoteles Cubanacan. Taxi transfers were booked at Vacacionar Travel Agency (recommended), and bus transfers at Viazul (recommended).
